Complications in Kidney Transplantation

Abstract

Kidney transplant recipients are at increased risk for developing infections, including opportunistic infections, due to their immunocompromised state. Histoplasmosis is a common endemic mycosis that can go unnoticed in immunocompetent individuals but can be disseminated and cause severe disease in immunocompromised patients. Here, we review the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of disseminated histoplasmosis in a kidney transplant recipient.
