Entrepreneurship in Family Business Groups in Latin America Under Organizational Ambidexterity Lens

Abstract

In this chapter, we focus on the development of family-controlled business groups within a sample of the Latin American region. The effects of entrepreneurship are studied under the lens of organizational ambidexterity. The findings show that a balance between exploiting existing resources and exploring new opportunities for wealth allows such firms to be ambidextrous, successful in stable periods, but able to adapt to changes in the environment. By explicitly considering a more general perspective on the influence of institutional quality in developing countries, this chapter goes a bit further back to the study of entrepreneurship in family businesses.
