Abstract
This chapter reports findings of a study conducted to investigate the technology-enhanced language teacher development (LTD) practices of Southeast Asian English language teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing mixed-methods research design with 17 English language teachers from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, the study found that work-based and self-determined types of LTD activities were preferred during the COVID-19 pandemic. These activities were mainly carried out through online videoconferencing, messaging, and collaboration tools. Relevance and practicality were the main considerations in LTD engagement, while availability and familiarity were the main factors considered in technology selection. Unstable internet connectivity was the main challenge encountered, while seeking assistance from mentors/colleagues was the most common coping mechanism used. Detailed results and implications for language teacher development in the Southeast Asian (ASEAN) region are discussed in this chapter.
