Abstract
In this chapter, we explore a variety of resources radiologists can utilize to teach clinicians and patients. For clinicians, we examine radiology education on appropriate imaging ordering, the basics of imaging interpretation, and explore where non-radiologists and trainees are learning about these topics. Additional educational opportunities for clinicians are also suggested. For patients, we present several public-facing resources that have been developed to provide education about different imaging modalities, the imaging process, and what to expect when having a study completed. In addition, we present several different educational and communication techniques (e.g., the expert blind spot, Ask-Tell-Ask model), grounded in the patient-centered care model, that radiologists can incorporate into their patient education toolkit. The chapter concludes with a primer on anti-oppressive medical education, highlighting the need to address power imbalances within the healthcare system to achieve equitable medical care and education in the service of true health equity.
