Abstract

Array antennas offer flexible and versatile solutions for achieving desired antenna performances. This work presents an improvement in the performance of a microstrip patch array antenna at a frequency of 28 GHz for wireless communications. The proposed array consists of four identical elements in parallel feeding via a simple microstrip line divider which has a power input adapted to 50 Ω. The antenna is designed using the FR4 Epoxy substrate with relative permittivity of 4.7, loss tangent of 0.0197, and thickness of 0.5 mm. The results of the performed simulation showed that this new proposed array offers a good impedance matching at the desired frequency with a voltage standing waves ratio less than 2. Moreover, the obtained gain and directivity have significant values with a large bandwidth of Δf = 2.8 GHz.
