Abstract
Functional neurosurgery requires high levels of accuracy for stereotactic placement of leads to an intracranial target. The adoption of robotic-assisted neurosurgery in functional neurosurgery has reduced error and improved overall accuracy of lead placement. As centers develop experience with robotics, new workflows are developed to ensure efficiency in the operating room. This chapter discusses the relevant history and studies regarding the development of this technique and seeks to explain nuances of robotic registration, surgical workflow, and address some pitfalls for neurosurgeons looking to adopt robotics in their own functional practices.
