Abstract

In the summer of 2004, I created AustenBlog as a compendium of Jane Austen and her work in popular culture: movies, television, news, lifestyle, fan fiction, zombies—the blog’s catchphrase was “She’s Everywhere.” I chose this niche because I felt a need for it in the fandom, pre-Facebook and Twitter, and also because I thought I did not have anything to add to the public perception of Austen’s books. As the blog has evolved, so has my interest in the popular culture side of the Austen fandom, which for me was always led by the books. I feel myself being drawn into writing about the books now, and trying to persuade other people to read them, even as they consume other media related to Jane Austen and her work.
