Abstract

Digital consumption and online shopping are becoming established practices for many people. In this chapter, some practices related to digital consumption and their meanings will be analysed, including the difference between search and experience goods, the motivations for online purchases, the use of marketplaces through apps, browsers, smartphones, or computers. Amazon is the best known and the most used marketplace, being recognised for its convenience and easiness. Online and offline purchases are more and more interconnected through showrooming and webroooming practices. Although people interviewed affirmed that they do not have large online spending, digital consumption emerges as a dimension increasingly present in personal purchasing strategies.
