Abstract
Standardized care delivered via evidence-based clinical protocols ensures reliable clinical outcomes and optimizes quality and safety (Ross et al., Health Aff 32(12):2149–2156, 2013). Clinical protocols ensure quality is maintained along with efficiency, thus preserving the value of care. Chest pain and rule-out ACS protocols must contain clearly defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, a plan for the patient’s subsequent management in the hospital or observation unit, and criteria for admission or discharge.
