About this book

This book is mainly intended for residents and young physicians in Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Gynaecology, as well as other professionals interested in this area. It covers the application of several relevant nuclear medicine procedures for malignancies affecting the female reproductive system and the breast. To date, there has never been a nuclear medicine textbook specifically focused on this topic, which this work seeks to remedy. In recent years, certain nuclear medicine procedures have proven to be extremely valuable for the diagnosis and staging of gynaecological malignancies and breast cancer. The book provides a comprehensive and structured review of these procedures, accompanied by a summary of the respective issues, making it a valuable asset for students, instructors and practitioners alike.

Reviews

“Structured as a manual of 103 pages, enriched by many very effective and didactic illustrations … and accompanied by an extensive and updated bibliography … . starting from the knowledge of the most relevant anatomical, physiopathological, clinical, and technical information, it is presented the state of the art and the current clinical role of radioisotopic procedures. … The interest of the book is also connected to the extensive, rigorous, and in-depth evaluation of infrequently applied methods … .” (Luigi Mansi, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Vol. 50 (7), 2023)

She is involved in research projects concerning sentinel lymph node and PET/CT in breast and gynaecological cancer. She currently coordinates the study group of “Radioguided Surgery” of the Italian Association of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.

She is author of 19 scientific papers published in international journals, first author of Italian clinical and technical guidelines for lymphoscintigraphy and sentinel node localization in gynecological cancers and author of two chapters on nuclear medicine discipline.

Sergi Vidal-Sicart  is a senior consultant and Research Coordinator  at the Nuclear Medicine Department of  Hospital Clínic Barcelona (University Hospital) and Specialist Physician at Nuclear Medicine Department of Parc de Salut Mar (University Hospital del Mar). He is involved in projectsconcerning radioguided intervention and sentinel node biopsy using conventional tracers and hybrid approaches for radioactivity/fluorescence detection and intraoperative navigation in several malignancies. He is in charge of Nuclear Medicine aspects concerning breast cancer and melanoma as well as other fields like isolated limb perfusion and radioembolization. He is a founding member of the International Sentinel Node Society and member of the editorial boards of the Spanish Journal of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging and BMC Cancer. Also, he is the former president of the Task Group of Radioguided Surgery within the Spanish Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.  He is the director of the biannual course concerning radioguided surgery which is held in Barcelona and is considered a basic course for Spanish nuclear medicine residents.
