Management and Leadership for a Sustainable Africa, Volume 3

Abstract

This chapter aims at enriching the understanding of the status of sustainability education in Egyptian higher education. Egypt is one of the countries that has coped with the international effort to enhance the level of sustainable development. Additionally, several publications addressed the need for integrating sustainability into higher education curricula to equip students with real-life practices which they can integrate into business tactics and strategies. Thus, this chapter assesses the extent to which sustainability is incorporated in the universities’ curricula and how they are pedagogically employed in the present time. The used methodological approach is qualitative content analysis for the websites of these universities to provide rich reference to other universities. Results revealed that sustainable development is augmented within the educational sector in both public and private universities. Accordingly, it was observed that more institutions are administering continuous efforts to integrate the concept of sustainable development on different levels.
