Abstract

This chapter provides a brief introduction to the theoretical and methodological perspective of symbolic interactionism, as well as its addressing its critiques and application. Qualitative methods informed by SI theorizing will prioritize accurately representing the meaning making activity of actors and the meanings they attribute to significant objects and relationships while also exhibiting a sensitivity to how action is fluidly constructed in particular social settings .
