Abstract

This chapter will address some of the most basic tools in professional dentist-patient communication. Professional communication is essential in dental visits. Due to limitation of time, communication should be targeted to ensure sufficient information exchange needed to provide proper treatment.

The Four Habits Model is a basic tool that may serve as a structural framework for all dental visits, both for the visit as a whole and within each separate dialogue phase. The dental visit entails switching between dialogue phases and clinical phases. These are tools that need to be learned, practised and constantly developed throughout the career as a dental professional.
