Abstract
In order for cities to meet their climate change goals, they need to be designed in such a way to encourage biking, walking, and public transportation. The cycling and micromobility infrastructure needs to be in place to ensure users of all abilities can safely use it. Cities like Los Angeles have been reimagining how it uses public space through pop-up events like CicLAvia and the Slow Streets program. Pedestrian accommodations must be ADA-compliant, and crosswalks must be placed where they are needed by following desire lines. Cities must continue to make investments in public transportation to ensure that it is frequent, fast, reliable, walkable, comfortable, safe, and affordable and goes where riders need to go.
