Abstract
Akin osteotomy was described very early in the history of forefoot surgery. It’s place in the treatment of hallux valgus changed over time. It’s now established that it’s insufficient to correct by itself an hallux valgus, but if resulting in an excessive correction, it may lead to unsatisfactory results. The fundamentals of base closing wedge osteotomy has remain and adapted to percutaneous procedures. Several variations are described with their biomechanical implications and the need for fixation explained.
