Abstract
The introduction to Denominational Higher Education During the Vietnam War presents the key themes and patterns existent throughout the work. The examination of higher education institutions of faith presents another perspective on the history of colleges and universities during the Vietnam War. The introduction explains that while public colleges and universities were immersed in protests and activism a representative group of Christian colleges and universities proved to be conservative and supported the United States in its efforts to limit the spread of communism including involvement in the Vietnam War. Where protests and activism were present, the methods and fervor were often restrained, as compared to Christian higher education’s public college and university counterparts. Ultimately, the introduction presents that this largely ignored area of denominational higher education provides a more thorough look at higher education during the era of the Vietnam War.
