Abstract
As Kevin Arnold pointed out in the series finale of the Wonder Years, “growing up happens in a heartbeat” (Brush and Dinner, 1993). Before you know it, a toddler becomes an adolescent, and quickly, that adolescent turns into an adult. The editors of this handbook are constantly amazed when we encounter a former client who we have not seen since they were a child. It gives us an opportunity to reflect upon our involvement in their learning history and growth. It lets us reflect upon how our own practices have improved and evolved over time. It lets us be grateful for the privilege of working with autistics/individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It also reminds us of the lack of resources and research commonly available for autistic adults. Thus, the editors came together in an effort to develop a comprehensive handbook on topics related to autistic adults/adults diagnosed with ASD that would be a valuable resource to professionals, caregivers, educators, and autistic adults.
