Abstract
The sinonasal and skull base regions give rise to a diverse range of benign and malignant neoplasms, many of which are remarkably rare. This diversity in part makes sinonasal tract pathology one of the more challenging areas of head and neck surgical pathology. Not uncommonly, ancillary testing is required to distinguish a suspected diagnosis from its mimickers, highlighting the importance of generous biopsy material. The most recent WHO classification of head and neck tumors has more fully characterized a number of sinonasal neoplasms in comparison to prior editions due to advances in understanding of their underlying genetic mechanisms. This chapter focuses on rare sinonasal and skull base neoplasms, with an emphasis on pertinent diagnostic morphologic features and attention to ancillary testing.
