Abstract
This chapter provides an introduction to the ideas and debates surrounding gender equality in Mexico. Particularly, the institutional mechanisms that have been designed and advanced to promote the participation of women in the political and public spheres, and the positive and negative results that these institutions have generated. This chapter also presents a general overview of the book’s objectives and the ideas and arguments made by each author. The chapter highlights the useful and original contributions this book provides to the field, based on an intersectional approach, building in perspectives that reach beyond the boundaries of political and legal institutions, engaging with current scholarship that views gender equality from an institutional-political and legal-disciplinary perspective, but also offering grassroots perspectives, with scholarship from a less academic, more activist and advocacy-focused lens.
