Abstract
François Mitterrand is a fascinating politician and a relevant European actor crucial for the creation of the European Union. He was a protagonist in an exciting historical moment when the European communist regimes and the Soviet Union collapsed, giving birth to a new society. The European Communities needed to adapt to the new geopolitical situation and the elaboration of a new common frame was basic for the adaptation of the organization. Mitterrand, as president of France, the most politically influential Member State back on time, was key figure in the foundation of the current European Union (Kerikmäe, 2013).
if we fail to overcome our past, let there be no mistake about what will follow: ladies and gentlemen, nationalism means war! War is not only our past, it could also be our future!
