Abstract

Purpose: Clubfoot is the most frequent deformity found in a newborn showing a very characteristic multidimensional deformity of the feet (equinus, varus, adduction, and supination). Nowadays the gold standard for the treatment is the conservative functional method of Dr. Ignacio Ponseti.

In this chapter the general trauma surgeon as well as the fellows and young specialists will find an easy to read and friendly lecture to follow from physiopathology of the clubfoot to the comprehensive casting treatment based in the unique properties of the subtalar joint. They will find as well the best recommendations on follow-up, use of the Ponseti brace, and how to avoid relapses.
