Abstract
Procedures for equinus deformity can be classified as proximal gastrocnemius lengthening (Barouk), intramuscular tenotomy (Baumann), muscle recession by aponeurosis lengthening (Strayer), lengthening by aponeurosis and fascial lengthening (Baker and Vulpius), and lengthening at the level of the tendon (White and Hoke). The more proximal the resection, the more stable the lengthening but the lesser degree of correction. The more distal the resection, the less stable the release and the need for a longer period of immobilization; however, a greater degree of dorsiflexion is achieved.
