Abstract

A critical evaluation of the newly developed analytical methods, as well as a comparison of them with those previously published, is unambiguously the important job of every researcher. Methods are mainly compared in terms of validation criteria and greenness of the process, yet there is a need to introduce a comprehensive protocol, which takes into account the method performance, compliance with green chemistry rules, and productivity. The recently developed RGB model provides an easy-to-use algorithm to fill this gap and evaluate the method in three colors: red (R) assigned to the analytical effectiveness of the method expressed by validation criteria, green (G) to safety and environmental friendliness, and blue (B) to practical effectiveness and productivity. Moreover, the method brilliance (MB) was introduced to facilitate the overall characterization of the method. This chapter provides the necessary theoretical background and examples explaining how to use the RGB model, based on the comparison of selected bioanalytical methods using high-performance liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis.
