Abstract
Awake craniotomies are a unique neuro-anesthetic that poses several challenges and risks. They require precise attention to detail and close communication between the neuro-anesthesiologist and the neurosurgeon. The following chapter discusses the anesthetic considerations for awake craniotomies; strategies for intraoperative management of seizures during an awake craniotomy; and management of a post-ictal patient who is in respiratory distress.
