Abstract

Palmela’s mansion, one of the current edifices of LisbonBreaks agency, is located in an area that underwent radical urbanistic transformations in the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. The edifice has an eclectic main façade, which hides the high technology that the mansion presents. The descriptive memory shows a profound knowledge of the technologies of the epoch, disseminated by architectural magazines, namely A Construção Moderna, regarding the type of laminated iron, hydraulic screed, the layer of folded brick, and the concrete bed anchored to the walls by the beams that support the storage room gallery. These building materials allow to conceive more open and fluid spaces, to control more the width and master the natural daylight, fundamental for spaces, as ateliers, foreseen in the 1914’s project of the edifice.
