Abstract

Nove-Josserand in 1897 was the first to use a full-thickness skin graft from the thigh to reconstruct a new urethra. Several sources of full-thickness graft have been tried. This includes skin graft from behind the ear, the thigh, the groin, preputial graft, bladder mucosa, buccal mucosa, and lingual mucosa. The graft may be used to reconstruct the whole circumference of the urethra, the dorsal side (inlay graft), or the ventral surface (onlay graft). The most popular grafts used nowadays as a single stage are the preputial grafts and the buccal or labial mucosa grafts. Most commonly, these grafts are used as dorsal inlay grafts.
