About this book

This volume provides case studies conducted in Malaysia based on environmental management and the sustainable development of human and ecological systems. The first chapter discusses awareness studies in environmental management in Terengganu, Malaysia. The second chapter is about human health risk assessment of heavy metals exposure due to freshwater fish ingestion from Sungai Kuantan, Malaysia. The third chapter discusses nickel and cadmium pollution in freshwater fishes in Kuantan River and Riau River. Chapter four discusses tourism sustainability. Chapters five and six provide an overview on particulate matter emissions at construction sites, and municipal solid waste (MSW) management approaches. In chapter seven, the book provides a general overview on cellulose and cellulose nanocrystals extraction. Finally, chapters eight and nine discuss legal measures for wildlife protection in Malaysia, and how improved environmental management practices are needed to achieve this. The book is intended for environmental managers, wildlife organizations, and students and researchers studying sustainable development, waste management, and corporate impacts on the environment.

About the editors

Mohd Armi Abu Samah is expert in solid waste management and composting development process systems. He has working as Senior Researcher at Universiti Putra Malaysia previously before joining IIUM Kuantan as Assistant Professor. He is very active in various research activities as principal researcher and also as a co-researcher at UITM Shah Alam, researcher team at UMP, UPM and UNIZA. In academic value, he is very progressive in writing a book, magazine, proceeding and journal paper as well as invited reviewer of International and Local journals. He published more than 70 papers in various international journal with indexed journal namely Scopus, ISI and others. He won several medals during research and innovation expo such Malaysia Malaysia Technology Expo, An International Exhibition of Innovative Higher Learning Research Initiatives, Research and Innovation Expo 2013 UTeMEX 2013 and Exhibition of Invention, Research & Innovation UPM. The medal he won Silver medal on Expert System of Solid Waste Composition Malaysia (ES-Waste) at Invention, Innovation & Design Exposition (IIDEX) 2015 and ITEX with Gold Medal in Malaysia and latest MTE 2021 with Silver Medal.

 Mohd Khairul Amri Kamarudin is an Associate Professor Ts. Dr. and Deputy Dean in Faculty of Applied Social Sciences, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia. His interests in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Development Science, Hydrology, Geomorphology, Geographical Information System, Sedimentology, Modelling, River and lake simulation, Geometric, River Plan Change, Water Quality, Eco-hydrology and Climate Change. Now he involved as a project leader in Fundamental Research Grant Scheme, Research Acculturation Grant Scheme and others Project Grant. Besides that, as co-researcher in more than 20 research grants. He also already produced 7 books, 40 Chapters in Book and more than 200 journal articles in ISI, SCOPUS and other index’s.
