Abstract

As the lightest structural metal and one of the most abundant metallic elements on earth, magnesium has significant growth potential in a variety of applications from transportation and energy storage to electronics and biomedical products. However, current magnesium applications are still limited due to a number of issues related to the structural and corrosion performance of commercial magnesium alloys. This presentation provides an overview of recent magnesium alloy development at The Ohio State University in collaboration with its industrial partners.
