Key Topics in Perinatal Mental Health

Abstract

The Italian national health system has an aim of universal coverage and is administered by regions. In order to be organised and to function effectively, public services need policies, national actions and specific initiatives addressing both mothers’ and children’s mental health. Alongside the family advice bureaus and maternal and child department, traditionally involved in perinatal care, innovative programmes on prevention and treatment of perinatal disorders gave a further boost to the perinatal mental health field in the city of Milan.
