Abstract
The knowledge of the sectional anatomy of the retroperitoneum is of major importance for the understanding of respective pathologies, congenital anomalies, and surgery. In this review, we will discuss the main aspects of the relationships of the kidney, ureter, and adrenal gland and, when possible, associate them with main radiologic images and pathologies that affect this important abdominal region. The objective is to present the sectional anatomy of retroperitoneum and its association with radiologic images and, most importantly, traumatic, tumoral, and infectious conditions and congenital anomalies of this region.
