Abstract
Radiology reporting, long a free-text based exercise, is evolving into a more structured form. This enhances standardisation of report language and structure and enables report comparison, multi-centre research, data mining and radiomics development and many other benefits. This chapter focuses on the evolution of standardisation of radiology report language, from early advice on careful language use, through the development of standard terminological sets for use in specific situations, to current developments in inter-linked medical and radiological ontologies and reporting systems.
