Introduction

Abstract

Inequalities are more present than ever in Latin America where the figures are more acute than anywhere else in the world. As a result, protests and social demands for a more just and equitable society have multiplied. Even more so in those vulnerable groups that feel the differences firsthand. We are talking about the poor, ethnic, sexual and racial minorities who, in the current context of globalization, feel the structural inequalities heavier than ever. Relationships between groups based on appropriation, domination or “de-recognition” establish a relationship of inequality (economic, political and social) between them. Inequality is therefore multidimensional, intersectional and crosses diverse spatialities, but it is always more harmful to those who have less capacity or less weapons to defend themselves with. The book we are presenting deals with these issues. Inequalities will be addressed by different authors, from different approaches and with interdisciplinary perspectives, covering diverse regional realities of Latin America and the Caribbean.
