Abstract

From the very beginnings of the video game industry, one genre of videogames has stood out – puzzle games. Puzzle games are based around using different skills, mostly methods involving logical tasks, for solving problems presented on those videogames. The puzzle genre is polarizing when it comes to the player base since it has a different concept and gives the players a different sense of accomplishment. Furthermore, puzzle games have a different effect/influence on the human brain than the other genres of videogames. This research analyzes the influence of puzzle videogames on logical reasoning, using the analytical hierarchy process for evaluating and ranking the analyzed videogames. Using a set of six well-known puzzle videogames, results indicate a significant influence on logical reasoning as well as a set of other analyzed parameters. This paper contributes to the already established knowledge base, by analyzing and comparing the influence of different puzzle games, which improve the logical reasoning by their own positive influences and presents a very important factor in the early mental development of young users.
