Abstract

Early intervention (EI) services are federally mandated services provided for children aged from birth to 3 with developmental delays and/or disorders. These services are under the IDEA, an act created to provide educational rights for children with disabilities. EI can address a variety of concerns, from family needs to interventions addressing deficits in skills and abilities. This chapter describes the history of EI and its effectiveness within the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) population. Assessment, progress monitoring, and transition policies will also be discussed.
