Abstract

Governance, both at macro and micro levels, has become so topical world over as evidenced by the number of demonstrations emanating from the way most countries and organizations grapple with the conflict management issues within their environs. The fact that the entire world has transformed into a global village has resulted in expanded information and trends sharing across the globe. Comparisons in terms of how each nation and/or continent has been running its affairs have enriched and sharpened citizens’ understanding of their needs culminating into citizen participation. To this end citizen participation has fast taken center stage to the extent that people now know what they want and how to demand same as deliverables. It is also being used as a measure of efficiency, effectiveness, and success or failure in the running of nations and organizations. This chapter therefore seeks to examine salient issues that impact governance and citizen participation with the view to streamline some generic approach to urban governance attached to sustainable service delivery.
