Abstract

Social capital is a critical component for fostering urban resilience, especially in the Global South. It is made up of three main forms of interactions: bonds, bridges, and linkages. The attributes of these forms of interactions vary depending on the cultural, socioeconomic, and political diversity present in specific geographic contexts. This chapter attempts to illustrate how social interactions could be embodied as social capital in achieving resilience for internally displaced migrant populations in Nigerian cities. Using qualitative data collection and analysis, the study explores the various dimensions of social capital deployed by internally displaced persons (IDP) in response to extant vulnerabilities they experience as they migrate to Nigerian urban areas.
