Abstract

This chapter outlines analogies for several infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis, hospital-acquired infections, human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, and fever of unknown origin, as well as the mechanism of and misconceptions surrounding vaccination. Usually, presentations to infectious diseases clinics are chronic and severe, which is why the analogies in this chapter give room for the patient to question an aspect of relevance or interest to them, which can be explained by continuing the analogy or reverting to a routine explanation.
