Abstract

This chapter outlines analogies for several rheumatological conditions and treatments, such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, Paget’s disease of the bone, Sjogren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs. The chronicity and disability inherent to rheumatological conditions, as well as the significant side-effect profile of its treatment, can be mentally and physically exhausting. In light of this, well-explained analogies can be used to motivate as well as provide relief for the patient.
