Abstract
In this chapter, Dr. Giannotta discusses gaining competence within the field of neurosurgery. Competence is the benchmark for anyone who produces goods or services and hopes to be compensated for it. Every future neurosurgery resident enrolled in medical school knows the following: patient care and procedural skills, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and system-based prac tice.
