The Psychology of Sustainability in Organizations: A New Scenario for Healthy Organizations, Healthy Business, Harmonization, and Decent Work

Abstract

The present chapter delineates the relatively new research area of the psychology of sustainability and sustainable development and discusses its contribution in organizations. This research area introduces a psychological perspective into the field of sustainability science, enriching the transdisciplinary framework that is at the basis of sustainability science. The critical contribution of the psychology of sustainability and sustainable development for healthy organizations and healthy business is introduced. The positive psychology perspective and its evolution until the emergence of positive organizational health psychology are described. The psychology of harmonization is a vital pillar of the psychology of sustainability and sustainable development, and its contribution to decent work through a meaningful construction is delineated. The psychology of sustainability and sustainable development offers a promising framework for research and intervention that will promote healthy workers in healthy organizations for healthy business.
