Abstract
This chapter discusses different aspects of sustainability within the luxury yachting industry from the perspective of a luxury yachting practitioner. It starts from the evolution of the industry and highlights various practices carried out on board in the past which were unsustainable and harmful to the marine environment. It considers the contributing factors towards more sustainable practices and the role of social media, new technology and the growing recognition of climate change towards this evolution. Through the author’s own experience and observations, this chapter examines some of the sustainable initiatives, products and practices that the industry has now adopted in its efforts to reduce its environmental footprint, demonstrating the advantages of these eco-efforts. It concludes that many sustainably-minded improvements are currently being made to reduce the ecological footprint of the industry to protect and preserve the ocean and environment as a whole.
