Abstract

The article is devoted to the issues of increasing the reliability of overhead power transmission lines in conditions of ice and wind loads. A method for detecting ice deposits on overhead power lines is described. The method is based on sending high-frequency electromagnetic signals to the high-frequency path of an overhead power transmission line with their subsequent reception after reflection from the inhomogeneities of the line impedance. The influence of the parameters of ice deposits (wall thickness, density, temperature, internal structure of ice deposits) on the attenuation and delay of the reflected location signals is studied. A method is proposed for calculating the attenuation and delay of signals propagating along the high-frequency path of overhead power lines. A method for solving the inverse problem of determining the thickness and type of ice deposits on overhead power lines by analysing location signals is discussed.
