Abstract

In the aircraft industry, technology of shot peen forming with subsequent grinding with flap wheels is successfully used to obtain the necessary shape of long panels and sheaths. This work presents the results of a study of the effect of processing surface curvatures and widths on the choice of one from four values of the cylindrical flap wheel widths, as the most universal. As a criterion, the hold-down value (the value of flap deformation) in the contact zone with the panel surface is analyzed. Based on the analysis of the flap wheel interaction with the panel surface, a working flap wheel is selected. To equalize the impact degree of the cylindrical flap wheel on the processing surface, a repeated partial overlapping of the surface grinded by the flap wheel previous passage is carried out to ensure a processing uniformity. The dependences of the processing width, overlapping width, and displacement of the flap wheel for performing the subsequent passage are obtained. As a result, a variant of grinding the surfaces of contour-forming parts with a cylindrical flap wheel with overlapping passages is proposed, which ensures uniform surface treatment of double curvature.
