Abstract
Obesity is an increasing problem in societies with free access to high caloric foodstuffs and presents a new challenge to twenty-first-century society. This extends to its children with almost 20% who could be defined as obese coming into adolescence. Beyond diet and exercise, surgery remains extremely effective in inducing and maintaining weight loss. Currently favored techniques include Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass.
