Cutaneous Drug Hypersensitivity

Abstract

Allergic hypersensitivity reactions (IgE and cell-mediated type) were described soon after the market introduction of antiacid drugs, with a large number of severe reactions as anaphylaxis or severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCARs), including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.

In this review, we aim to summarize what has been published about clinical manifestation and pathogenetic mechanisms of adverse reactions induced by PPIs and H2-blockers, focusing on accuracy of diagnostic procedures (in vivo and in vitro test) and management of possible cross-reactivity.
