Abstract
We describe the basic and specialized requirements specifically for primate breeding colonies, including veterinary care, housing, welfare and enrichment, and management of social behavior. We emphasize that all four areas are of critical importance to the ethical and healthy productions of these animals. We explore in detail the needs for record keeping and pedigree maintenance when breeding primates, including genetic and demographic management.
