Abstract
At Green Mountain College, careers, advising, and teaching were integrated by housing three centers—the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), Center for Advising and Achievement (CAA), and Office of Career and Personal Development (OCPD)—under a centralized unit. This resulted in staff working together to support student learning, achievement, and career planning, from first-year experience to beyond graduation. For instance, students benefitted from academic coaching (under the CAA), enhanced writing courses (under the CETL), and community and persistence activities (under both the CAA and CETL). In turn, faculty benefitted from workshops on high-impact teaching practices (under the CETL), advising (under the CAA), and professional development opportunities (under the COPD). Collaboration between these seemingly disparate centers created a vibrant space for holistic student success.
