Abstract
Higher education (HE) policy increasingly encourages universities to proactively encourage student engagement, learning, and success. In response to these developments, the University of Winchester has recently established the Center for Student Engagement to research and enhance staff and student development at the institution. With ambitions to lead contemporary practice and research in the area of student engagement, the management of the university decided to create this innovative center to benefit and develop the students, faculty, and staff of our campus communities. In the first year, the center team focused on four primary areas, including ensuring accessibility to all student opportunities, further researching student engagement, supporting academic and professional departments, and validating the innovative postgraduate program on student engagement for HE professionals.
