Abstract

It is a question of how physical and theoretical knowledge are deeply connected and how the learning of elementary gestures is the necessary basis for the development of highly refined artistic and artisan skills. The textile processes express single passages that many of us fortunately learn at a young age and that allow the development not only of manual skills but also of the control of thought and actions. The study is verified through a survey of a population sample on the skills of textile processing that do not produce income and that are not a job but which are part of our life also for the mere fact that everyone comes into daily physical contact with their clothes, your second skin.

The text was entirely elaborated by Eleonora Trivellin. Martina Biagi’s contribution was in the iconographic organization and in the care in the organization of field studies, in particular through the questionnaire.

Lateral movements for the perception of the texture, pressure for the hardness, static contact for the temperature, lifting for the weight, global grip for the general shape, the general dimensions and volume, traversing the contours for the specific shape.

In reality, the analogy between sign, drawing and embroidery can be even stronger than with traditional painting. If we think of the white embroidery, we have a sort of bas-relief given precisely by the different elevation of the stitches. If we think about the application technique, we can draw strong analogies with collage, a technique that had a strong development in the first half of the twentieth century.
