Abstract

Post-traumatic spinal deformity is a common potential complication of spinal injury and poses one of the greatest challenges in spinal surgery. Careful preoperative assessment and detailed preoperative surgical planning is essential for satisfactory outcomes. The goals of surgical treatment are to decompress neural structures, to restore kyphotic deformity and ideal sagittal alignment, to achieve solid fusion, and to relieve pain. These goals can be achieved through an all-anterior, all-posterior, or a combined anterior-posterior approach. In recent years, posterior-only surgery is being preferred to combined approaches. Complications can be minimized with meticulous surgical technique and appropriate correction technique.
